Top Ten Uses For Coffin Case Dark Line Series Accessory Cases

A few weeks ago, we had the chance to go hands-on with the brand new Dark Line series of accessories cases from the guys at Coffin Case. Since then, we've been hearing from customers about the many uses they have found for these killer mini coffins. While we assumed a lot of customers would use them for smaller pro audio related equipment and accessories such as cables, mics, pedals, etc., the responses we received shows that these cases are for much more than just music gear.

From laptops to makeup, tools, wine, and even kitchen knives, they proved that the uses are pretty much endless. With that in mind, we decided to take a few of the most creative ideas and recreate them for ourselves. Check out our pics below of just some of our favorite uses for the Dark Line Series Coffin cases!

A Few Of Our Favorite Boutique Guitar Pickup Brands

When players hear the word "boutique," a single word always seems to come to mind -- expensive. Sennheiser e945 Dynamic Mic Review

A few months back, I took the Sennheiser e935 dynamic vocal mic for a spin and definitely came away impressed. All in all, it was a great all-around mic and a standout piece of gear in a market crowded with quality stage mics. Compared to the Shure SM58, the e935 offers much more definition and clarity, not to mention an overall smoother feel. This means that it will show off a much truer representation of your natural voice (the good and the bad). With that in mind, I got curious about it's bigger brother, the e945. Friedman BE-OD Guitar Pedal Review

While some players out there might not be familiar with the work of Dave Friedman, they definitely know the many legendary tones he helped shape. After building, modding and customizing amps for some of rock's best-known guitarists (Eddie Van Hale, Jerry Cantrel, and Steve Stevens, just to name a few), Friedman decided to take that expertise and create his own line of gear. One such creation is Friedman 100BE, a Marshall inspired tube amp that truly stands up there among the best money can buy. Unfortunately, not all of us can afford to drop thousands of dollars for an amp head. Back in the early days of amplified music, the instrument cable was seen as little more than a piece of equipment that got the signal from point A to point B. The materials were cheap, the construction was an afterthought and some even heavily degraded tone. In comes Monster Cable Products who completely changed the way we look at cables. Quilter Labs MicroPro Mach 2 8-Inch Combo Amp Review

Quilter Labs is known for their use of Class D amplifier technology, also known as “switching amps.” These aren’t your more common transistor or even vacuum tube amps we’re talking about here, but a whole different technology. The reason this is important to know before heading into our review is that in order to fully understand the MicroPro Mach 2 8" Combo, and how such a little amp can pack such big sound, we have to understand that we’re dealing with a different beast than transistor or tube.

Do Capacitors Change Tone? https://t.co/5z4hoG8AlC https://t.co/FnzkFYSVJc

Do Capacitors Change Tone?

You've probably come across guitar capacitors from time to time, not really knowing what they do aside from being part of the guitar's electronics. Well, yeah, that's true, but did you know they can affect a guitar's tone? And with that said, how do they really affect your tone anyway? Check out the article below to find out!

What Are Capacitors?

If you take a look at the pots in your guitar, you will notice that your tone control pot, has an additional piece that your volume control pot does not have, and that piece is a capacitor. The capacitor is the component that enables your tone control to adjust the level of treble, rather than just the total volume.

There are three common types of capacitors used in guitars, and the values of these capacitors are 0.022, 0.047, and occasionally 0.1. These measurements are taken in microfarads. The HIGHER the level of the CAP, the more BASS your tone will have when you have turned down the treble of your tone.

What this means in relation to your tone, is that you can adjust the fatness of your tone by changing your capacitor to fit your tone preferences. If you like the tone adjustment that comes with most standard guitars, where the treble is slightly rolled off but doesn’t create too much bass in the sound, then you can stick with a 0.022 or bump up to a 0.047 for a bit more bass. If you wanted to really cut out the treble and have a deep, bass-heavy sound, then you would need to switch to a 0.1 cap.

Experimenting with caps could be a great way to craft a custom tone from your rig. You could combine a really bright, high-output pickup, with a 0.1 cap, and see what kind of awesome mid-range or bass tones you could pull out of it. On the other hand, you could go with a bright pickup and go with the softest cap you could get, and try to really dial in the treble-rich tones that you want. Lastly, you could use an active, dark-sounding humbucker, and couple it with a 0.1 capacitor, and see what kind sounds you could get out of some different amps, to really explore some dark and muddy tones.

Final Thoughts ...

While guitar capacitors might not impact the overall tone as much as guitar pickups or the guitar itself, it still plays a crucial role. So the next time you're looking to customize the sound of your guitar, make sure to not overlook the potential that capacitors can make!
